ARCHITECTURE DESIGN
THE RETICULATED ENCLOSURE
SEMPERIAN PAVILION
PROF. ALFONSO PEREZ-MENDEZ
In the process of conceiving the pavilion the use of materiality was crucial to the development of the architecture. The undulations on the outer skin of the pavilion function as the primary structure of the pavilion. This enables for the manipulation of the material to act as an aesthetic function and as a structural accomplishment. The experimentation of material usage combined with ingenuity in the design allows for maximum occupant interaction with the architecture. This insinuates a playful architecture enjoyed by all ages in which the occupant can touch and emotionally connect with the architecture, allowing for a pleasant experience. The interior extruded partitions act as a light wells from all facades and angles this interior articulated wall controls light, views and moments for the occupant to interact with the architecture by feeling it. The undulated hull roof is dropped significantly almost to create a subliminal feeling. It intentionally surrounds the occupant, this architectural gesture allows for mixed feelings of insecurity and fear to interact with mixed emotions that surround the pavilion. This bold gesture acts as an aesthetic gesture and an overhead sun screen to protect the occupants inside the pavilion.
