THE CHARLESTON THEATER OF CONTORTION
THE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
PROF. LISA HUANG
The Charleston Theatre of Contortion is a proposal situated within the historical district of Charleston, South Carolina. The proposed center of performance is a beacon; an attractor to the art of acrobatics. Aerialists and artists from around the world come together in this center of the arts to showcase there spectacular talents. Cirque du Soliel is one of the many companies that uses the space for shows and rehearsals. Street performers are also encouraged to use the central courtyard and interact with the public passing by on the street. This courtyard also functions as an expandable arena for acrobatics; the surrounding walls slide back to join the two performances spaces into one unified area of entertainment. The numerous studios in the institute provide practice area for the accompanying singers, dancers, and acrobats.
