TENSILE ANTHROPOLOGICAL CONTAINER

SEMPERIAN PAVILION

PROF. ALFONSO PEREZ-MENDEZ

The design intent for this small pavilion is to operate as a place of dwelling along the edge of Lake Chapala right outside the city of Guadalajara, Mexico. The idea was inspired by a tensile membrane structure that is flexible and versatile given the contextual  conditions. The idea for the pavilion is to allow easy transportation of the pavilion as a pre-manufactured component that can be easily assembled on site. The humid condition of site inspired a fabric material to be stretched over reinforced structure this fabric is completely weather proofed. The idea is to allow views from the interior, no matter the positioning of the occupant. Aside from begin water tight ,the tensile membrane allows the pavilion to be light and cost effective. It also allows light to penetrate into the membrane by being semi-transparent, always thinking about contextual placement and views to the outside.
