PERFORATED MEMBRANE

ATRIUM INTERVENTION

PROF. LEE-SU HUANG

The perforated membrane is an intervention in the Architecture Atrium at the University of Florida located in Gainesville, FL. The idea was to provide shelter from weather while creating an oasis in the atrium for gallery exhibits along the studios. As visually seen the gills in the atrium provide pin-up space for reviews and gallery exhibits. It allows for pinup space without overwhelming the atrium by enclosing it completely the slight undulations allow for light to permeate the inner  space. The columns are the structural support of the roof membrane and the same language is carried throughout the design. The design approach pushed the boundaries of the digital realm while embracing the phenomenon of light and function.
