INTERWEAVING LIGHT AND ARMATURE

CONCRETE AND RESIN

PROF. LISA HUANG

The conceptual proposal is directed towards the critical analysis of two materials and how they can be implemented for architectural purposes. Resin has very inherent qualities unique to the method of application. The transmissive and translucent qualities of resin were very appealing to the desired requirements for the installation. In order to achieve this notion of light being woven, a secondary material had to be introduced. This material must include transmissive qualities of light, but be load bearing and act as the armature between the two interwoven materials. The second material concrete was chosen because it blended well with resin in the establishment of one architectural piece that demonstrated the notion of rigidity and porosity. When these materials meshed together it demonstrated the functionality of the architectural experiments to be completely fused and inherently act as wholistic idea that definitely translated the concept of light and armature interwoven efficiently. The idea  of having translucent concrete in combination with the resin sounded very appealing.
