HIGH RISE OFFICE TOWER

PROF. THOMAS SMITH

*IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LORIN JOHNSON

This  High Rise Office Tower is located in La Défense, Paris, France. This area is a major business district, making perfect sense to build a high rise office tower in this area. The design strategies used incorporate European sustainable design methods, because of the harsh winters the objective was to push these boundaries of sustainability to the limit. The complex geometry of the skyscraper allows for the following sustainable applications to occur. The towers main concept is to provide a healthy work environment, so the open office plan was incorporated and support spaces pushed to the core of the building. There are two main sections that begin to twist around a central core, this is the circulation and sky-bridge connection between opposing sides. The twisting motion of the tower also allows to have a public green terrace on every floor, providing a healthy work environment when employees go on breaks. The external skin is supported by the strategic placement of gradient solar panels on the glass. This allows for the building to produce energy that would partially power the building, and all these elements combined they allowed us to further understand sustainable concepts.
